Extend Jose Peseiro’s Contract: NFF Urged Amid Super Eagles Success.
In light of the Super Eagles’ impressive performance, sports administrator Tayo Adeyemo has emphasized the importance of extending Jose Peseiro’s contract as the coach for Nigeria’s national football team. Adeyemo’s advocacy for contract extension aims to ensure early preparation for the upcoming AFCON tournament.
Speaking to NAN in Lagos on Wednesday, Adeyemo highlighted the significance of retaining Peseiro to facilitate the Super Eagles’ readiness for the next AFCON.
Furthermore, Adeyemo urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to prioritize the inclusion of home-based players to bolster Nigeria’s chances of securing victory in the forthcoming AFCON, slated to be held in Morocco.
“Hosting the 35th edition of the Total Energies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in 2025, Morocco presents a crucial opportunity for Nigeria. Extending the coach’s contract is essential,” he emphasized.
To enhance the team’s prospects, Adeyemo emphasized the need for more dedicated, skilled, and determined players. He underscored the significance of rigorous training and frequent quality friendly matches, particularly with home-based players, in the absence of international players’ availability.
Reflecting on the Super Eagles’ commendable performance, securing the second position at the 2023 AFCON hosted by Cote d’Ivoire, Adeyemo praised Peseiro’s coaching prowess.
“Many Nigerians underestimated the team’s potential before the tournament, yet they reached the final stage. This underscores the coach’s exceptional performance and merits an extension of his contract,” Adeyemo concluded.
