From Football Pitch to Music Stage: The Journey of Pasuma.
In a candid revelation, renowned Nigerian musician Wasiu Alabi Odetola, famously known as Pasuma, unveiled the unexpected twist in his career path. Initially pursuing football, Pasuma redirected his talents towards music after missing out on the opportunity to represent Nigeria in the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship held in China.
During a recent interview with Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, the iconic fuji artist shared the pivotal moment that steered him towards music. Reflecting on the profound impact of Wasiu Ayinde’s groundbreaking album “Talazo ’84”, Pasuma found inspiration to pivot towards a musical career, abandoning his football aspirations when his chance for international glory dissolved.
Recalling the turning point, Pasuma expressed, “In 1984, Alhaji King Wasiu Ayinde released an album called ‘Talazo ’84’. The album was everywhere; worldwide. So, I decided to go into music because I was a footballer.”
Despite initially being selected for the CODAK 85 squad, Pasuma’s dreams of donning the Nigerian jersey at the World Cup were dashed. This disappointment served as the catalyst for his transition from the football field to the music scene.
