2019 ELECTIONS; LET THERE BE PEACEFUL POLLS

Press Release

The first round of 2019 elections is to take place on 23rd February 2019 while the second phase is fixed for March 9th, 2019.

While the first phase is for federal elections consisting of National Assembly and the presidential elections the second phase is for state elections comprising governorship and state house of Assembly members’ election.

In all elections, candidates vie for different posts under different political parties making it a contest and survival of the fittest.

For each post, only one person is required to win the slot. Therefore, two winners cannot emerge for same post.

As a result, some contestants will win while other will lose.

No matter what happens, the winners cannot work alone and so would require the support of others.

That is why after elections, alignment and re-alignment usually occur to ensure all stakeholders are brought under one umbrella of governance usually requiring neglecting the violent supporters except when needed for destructive acts.

It would then be the politicians’ turn to be wooing and eventually win their rivals’ support whereas their supporters are usually at one another’s throat especially before election and after declaration of election result.

This, therefore, calls for caution as politicians have common goal of sharing national wealth regardless of race, religion and political affiliations while their supporters rejoice in destroying others’ properties and or killing of opponents forgetting that today’s opponents may be tomorrow allies.

So, if you kill your opponents or destroy their properties today, who will be your allies tomorrow?

So far, not many of the contestants who will be beneficiaries of all elections have been injured, killed or physically attacked like their supporters.

In fact most of the contestants have their family kept in foreign lands while their followers turn hooligans expose themselves to various harm.

In some situations, gun, machete, cutlasses, sword, etc. have been purchased for political thugs by their political masters who have not deemed it fit to buy them cars or build houses for them or sponsor their education.

If because of N5,000 or fake promises you endanger your lives and those of your family, you only waste your life for nothing.

If you are thugs today, do not think good positions are for criminally-exposed people which may elude you tomorrow as a result of past bad record.

“Orubebetiasis” of 2015 and his “jegalization” by Attahir Jega was able to curtail the treacherous citizens’ attempts to rob Nigeria of new dawn then.

Today, Nigeria is a respected country in the world for able to restore global confidence in the nation.

Now that election is here to consolidate the gains of the past few years, do not be the clog in the wheel of peaceful and reclaimed progressive Nigeria.

Rights and Freedom Advocates (RIFA) remind political saboteurs to remember their children and or parents who would suffer their exit and so they should not forget that no politician will be bold enough to go to court or police detention to bail them.

In fact, if thugs are caught in any crime they are sent to execute any devilish agenda by any ambitious politician, such politician will disown them immediately.

Therefore, it is good if political thugs first ask politicians to allow their family members lead any outing.

Or is it normal that as you are servitude to parents you must also serve their children? Then the ball is in your court to choose between emancipation and servitude.

As Nigerians vote in the 2019 elections, RIFA urge all Nigerians to be orderly, peaceful and dutiful at every election.

Political thugs should desist from snatching ballot boxes or engage in result falsification and destruction of lives and properties.

Election is just a contest where winners and losers must emerge and should not be a matter of life and death.

The security agents should also be patriotic to defend the nation integrity while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials should be impartial in discharge of their duties.

The election observers should also be watchful of their actions while the political parties should be patriotic to allow the will of the people to manifest in the elections.
