Police arrest 207 robbery suspects, recover 50 vehicles

The Oyo State Police Command recently announced significant strides in crime prevention and apprehension of suspects. According to SP Adewale Osifeso, the State Police Public Relations Officer, a notable 207 armed robbery suspects have been apprehended, and a substantial recovery of 50 vehicles has been made within the period from January to December.

During a press briefing held at the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, SP Adewale Osifeso disclosed that the achievements also encompass the retrieval of 46 motorcycles and tricycles, along with 108 firearms and 721 rounds of ammunition of various calibres from individuals suspected of criminal activities.

In response to the prevailing situation, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Adebola Hamzat, has issued directives to all area commanders, divisional police officers, and other relevant personnel to reinforce efforts in combating crime. This involves deploying adequate manpower and resources to address security concerns effectively.

Emphasizing a strategic approach, Osifeso highlighted the Commissioner’s directives, stating, “The CP has instructed increased supervision by area commanders, divisional police officers, and tactical commanders. This includes close oversight of field personnel who regularly engage with commuters and other civilian populations.”

Moreover, to maintain discipline and accountability within the force, Osifeso stressed, “The command’s monitoring and x-squad units are diligently addressing any form of misconduct among officers. Swift action will be taken against any officer found engaging in extortion or any behavior detrimental to the command’s reputation.”

This concerted effort aims not only to curb criminal activities but also to ensure the public’s confidence in law enforcement.
