Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro Expels Student for Drug Offenses: Ensures Campus Safety with Stringent Measures.
In a recent development, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, Mukail Akinde, has confirmed the expulsion of a female student, Susan Isoyo, who was apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) about 10 months ago.
This announcement was made during a media briefing held to mark the commencement of the school’s combined 2024 convocation ceremony.
Isoyo, who faced allegations of involvement in illicit drug activities, was apprehended by NDLEA operatives in April 2023. The agency discovered her in possession of codeine-based cough syrup and 283 grams of cannabis.
Following her release by the NDLEA, Isoyo was subjected to the school’s disciplinary process, which found her guilty of the charges and subsequently expelled her from the campus.
During discussions with reporters, the rector emphasized the institution’s commitment to upholding its reputation and ensuring a safe environment for all students.
Akinde stated, “Maintaining the integrity of our institution is paramount. We have stringent internal regulations, and we take swift action against any behavior that tarnishes our name.”
He further elaborated on the school’s proactive measures to prevent similar incidents, highlighting the implementation of routine drug testing for students. Akinde emphasized that any student found with traces of hard drugs would face immediate expulsion, irrespective of their background.
“We have instituted a policy that allows us to conduct drug tests whenever there are suspicions regarding a student’s behavior. Those found in possession of illegal substances are promptly removed from the campus,” Akinde affirmed.

Additionally, Akinde credited the success of the institution’s disciplinary measures to collaborative efforts with external stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies and community leaders.
“We have worked closely with law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order on our campus. Furthermore, the support of community leaders, such as Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, has been instrumental in combating social vices like cultism,” Akinde acknowledged.
