Toke Makinwa, a prominent figure in Nigerian media, recently revealed a deeply personal and tragic aspect of her past during a podcast episode featuring comedian Ayo Makun, known as AY.
On her podcast, Toke opened up about a haunting childhood experience—a devastating fire that claimed the lives of both her parents. This traumatic incident has since loomed large in her life, becoming her greatest fear.
Reflecting on a recent fire incident at AY’s Lagos residence, Toke recounted her own distressing encounter years ago. She shared, “I’ve been a victim of a house fire when I was a kid and unfortunately both my parents died as a result of that. That’s one of my biggest fears.”
AY, taken aback by this revelation, responded with empathy, saying, “Sorry about that. I’m just hearing this for the first time.”
Toke further described the shock of waking up to numerous missed calls, discovering her house engulfed in flames through social media. However, she found a glimmer of solace in the fact that her family was away on holiday during the tragic incident—a detail that became a point of gratitude amidst the devastation.
