That’s a stunning goal for Giroud and a sign of what he can do if given service. Absolutely brilliant and vital for Chelsea.
On first glance, it appeared as though Mount may have gotten to the ball and played it through for Giroud, or possibly played it off Hermoso – had either occurred, it would have been offside. However, replays show that Hermoso in fact made a hash of the challenge, clipping the ball over his own head with no touch from Mount – so Giroud was never offside!

Changes for Chelsea as Ziyech and Kante replace Kovacic and Mount. Tuchel presumably worried that a booking for Kovacic would mean his entire first-choice midfield tonight would be suspended for the second leg.

Third change for Chelsea as Reece James replaces Hudson-Odoi. In theory that’s a defensive change, but James is so good at crossing from the right that it’s almost a like-for-like swap with added defensive cover.

We saw Joao Felix try a spectacular scissor kick a few minutes ago, and Olivier Giroud copies him – and finds the net! It’s a stunning effort from the Chelsea forward, but it’s ruled out for offside! Desperately unlucky for the French forward, but fine margins decide these type of ties…
So that’s Mount and Jorginho out for the second leg. You have to think that was a ‘good’ yellow to get, given the way Felix was breaking away.
