Tottenham striker Harry Kane says the arrivals in the Premier League of Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland will drive him on to become a better player.

On Monday morning, Manchester City finally confirmed the arrival of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in a £51million deal,

while Benfica announced on Sunday night that they have agreed the £64m transfer of Nunez to Liverpool.

The pair scored 63 club goals between them last season and seem set to make catching last season’s top two an even more daunting task for the chasing pack, including Kane’s Tottenham.

On a personal level, however, the England captain is welcoming the new arrivals and will

look to outdo the pair as he chases a fourth Premier League Golden Boot.

Kane:

“The battle for the Golden Boot is always tough, the Premier League has produced some top strikers around the world for a number of years now,” .

“Every season I’ve been playing it’s always been a tough battle.

“You expect the top strikers to want to play in the Premier League and with those two new signings it’s going to be the case.

It helps me as a player to have good competition, it drives me to improve and get better so, for sure, I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Kane has scored 183 Premier League goals across his career and has long been earmarked

as having the potential to surpass Alan Shearer’s mark of 260.

More immediately, Wayne Rooney’s all-time England record of 53 goals is within sight after the Spurs striker scored a landmark 50th goal against Germany last week.

The 28-year-old could move closer in Tuesday night’s Nations League clash with Hungary at

Molineux, ahead of which Gareth Southgate has been urging the rest of his squad to ease the goalscoring burden on Kane and fellow forward Raheem Sterling.

Kane, however, says the country’s reliance on his goals is not overly daunting.

“As a striker, of course you have that expectation on yourself and I think the team have a bit of expectation on you as well to produce.”

“I enjoy it, I enjoy scoring goals for sure and winning games.

“There’s no pressure from the other players in terms of making me feel nervous about scoring goals or anything like that.

We all know our responsibilities and our jobs, I try and take that responsibility as one of the experienced players and I just enjoy scoring goals.”
