FIFA To Pay Al-Hilal £6.5million After Neymar's ACL Injury

FIFA could be on the hook for a substantial £6.5 million payout to Al-Hilal following Neymar’s season-ending injury while representing Brazil on the international stage.

The injury occurred when Neymar had to be stretchered off the field during the first half of Brazil’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay. Al-Hilal subsequently confirmed that the 30-year-old had sustained a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury, necessitating surgical intervention.

FIFA, the governing body of world football, offers an insurance policy known as the FIFA Club Protection Programme (CPP). Under this program, FIFA covers a player’s salary for a period ranging from 28 days to a full year, with a maximum payout of £6.5 million if the player sustains an injury while on international duty. Consequently, FIFA may have to disburse the maximum sum to Al-Hilal in this case.

Nevertheless, the financial implications of Neymar’s injury for Al-Hilal extend far beyond the £6.5 million provided by the policy.

The Brazilian star is under contract for a staggering £276 million over a two-year period, signifying a substantial financial commitment on the part of the club.
