EFCC Busts Internet Fraud Ring: 14 FUTA Students Among 19 Apprehended.
In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 14 undergraduates from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, alongside 19 others.
This operation, conducted in the early hours of Wednesday, February 14, 2024, targeted suspected internet fraudsters operating within the Akure metropolis. Acting on credible intelligence, EFCC operatives raided various residential locations where these individuals were allegedly engaging in illicit online activities.

The arrests come as a response to mounting concerns expressed by concerned citizens, including neighbors and parents, who alerted the EFCC to the alarming rise of internet-related crimes and the potential recruitment of young individuals into such schemes.
Seized during the operation were 10 luxury vehicles, along with a cache of smartphones, laptops, and a motorcycle, all believed to be instrumental in facilitating their fraudulent endeavors.
Following thorough investigations, the EFCC has announced its intention to prosecute the suspects in accordance with the law, underscoring its commitment to combating cybercrime and ensuring justice is served.
