Ed Woodward Resigns As Manchester United Executive Vice Chairman

Manchester United Football Club executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward has resigned from his position at Old Trafford.

The announcement of his decision comes on a seismic evening in football, with the European Super League coming crashing down around its founding members. Although he will not fully depart until the end of the year.

United, along with their fellow Premier League ‘Big Six’ clubs and six other sides, were one of the clubs to establish the controversial breakaway competition.

But Woodward has suddenly stepped down after a severe backlash against the club’s involvement in the Super League. The United players were made aware before news leaked online.

United sources refused to confirm Woodward’s departure as it was ‘market sensitive’. The club insists Woodward was always due to leave at the end of the calendar year and have only decided to bring the announcement forward.

Woodward became the de facto chief executive of United in 2013, replacing David Gill, and he will be remembered as the common denominator during eight years of mainly failure in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

However, Ed Woodward himself has confirmed the news, he shared a tweet on his personal Twitter handle to confirm the news immediately.
