Almost 50 vultures have died after reportedly feasting on carcasses at an abattoir in Eke-Ihe Market, Enugu state.
The state police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, the incident was the handiwork of poachers who usually mix some concoction with slaughtered animal leftovers, with a view to attracting vultures to it and to consume it.
“Further information gathered revealed that after consuming the leftovers, vultures would be weak and subsequently die for the poachers to go and pick them up,” he added.
