An African Democratic Congress (ADC), gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Barrister Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, has insisted that Nigerians; irrespective of tribe, political party or religion have a duty to query President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), over what he described as “huge debt the administration has incurred since it came to power in 2015”.

Alli, who said he was worried by the “enormous debts of Nigeria, both internally and externally”, said that it was unfortunate that the federal and states have incurred about 10.5 trillion naira debt since the inception of the present administration in 2015.

The former Secretary to Oyo State Government, SSG, in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday by his Media Aide, Comrade Ibrahim Taiwo, added that Nigerians should not be shy to query and challenge the current administration over the debt.

Alli in the statement remarked that, “Nigerians have a duty to query the government of the APC led by President Muhammadu Buhari especially now that the administration is winding up for the 2019 general elections.

“As at June, 2015, external debts of the states of the federation stood at two trillion naira in June, 2015 and by June, 2018, it has risen to about seven trillion naira, while that of the federal government which was eight and a half trillion rose to twelve trillion.

“In summary, debts hanging on the neck of innocent Nigerians, external and domestic stand at twenty two and a half trillion naira from twelve trillion it was before the advent of the APC administration in Nigeria, an increase of eighty-five percent within three years”.

Alli lamented that many Nigerians were still in abject poverty despite the huge debt the administration has incurred.

He said, “The tragedy of it is that, Nigerians cannot feel a positive effect of this gargantuan debts, from North to South, people are walloping in abject poverty, the poor is crying, the rich is restless. For God’s sake, these people have milked us dry”.

The former Chairman, Odu’a Investment Company Limited then insisted that “Nigerians must start asking questions, raise queries, for this should not go unchallenged.

“The coming elections should not be an excuse to sweep this under the carpet, workers are lamenting everywhere for non payment of backlog of salaries, pensioners are dying in scores because their pension arrears are left unattended to, yet the country is in debts, there is infrastructural decay all over the land, then, we must ask, where is our money?

“Now, they want to be distributing a partly sum of ten thousand naira to placate the ordinary citizens, and they are beginning with Osun state where elections will be taking place, apparently preparing the ground to seduce voters now and later, this game of deceit should not be allowed to continue”.
