Former Liverpool star, John Aldridge, strongly believes that Manchester City and Chelsea won’t face the same point deductions as Everton did recently.
Everton found themselves immediately docked 10 points after breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations, plunging them into the relegation zone as a consequence.
While City also faced charges for breaching financial rules, allegedly flouting over 100 regulations from 2009 to 2018, Chelsea’s situation revolves around reported payments linked to former owner Roman Abramovich. Despite this, the Premier League hasn’t formally charged Chelsea.
Speaking to the Liverpool ECHO, Aldridge remarked, “Everton was an easy target. It’s tricky to gauge, but the outcome will likely depend on future events. We’ve witnessed the ongoing situations at Chelsea under Abramovich or everything surrounding Man City – with 115 charges.”

“Could it be because the other clubs have continued to excel? They’re all within the top six? Perhaps Everton’s inability to financially contest it played a role.”
He continued, “City and Chelsea possess seemingly boundless resources, which might have deterred those seeking action against them for years, leading to delays. Everton simply lacked the means to employ similar strategies—I’m certain they would have if they had the same resources.”
