Renowned Nigerian transgender model Fola Francis has tragically passed away. The fashion designer and prominent advocate for the LGBT community reportedly lost her life in a drowning incident on December 20, 2023, at IIashe beach in Lagos.
Vincent Desmond, a freelance journalist, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement released on Friday.
“Fola Francis was a source of inspiration and guidance for us and numerous others. Her untimely departure has left us profoundly saddened,” he expressed.

Desmond also mentioned plans for a memorial to honor Fola’s legacy, details of which will be disclosed later, while urging respect for the privacy of the bereaved family and friends during this difficult period.
Fola Francis made history as the first Nigerian transgender individual to grace the runway at Lagos Fashion Week for both Cute-Saint and Fruché, leaving an indelible mark on the fashion industry.
