Former Man United Angel di Maria who now plays for Ligue 1 champions
PSG has reportedly ‘called Diego Simeone several times’ to offer to play
for his former employers’ city rival Atletico Madrid.
The £60m plus signing by Man United in 2014 remains an important
player for Nigeria’s World Cup opponent Argentina. Fixtures against the
Super Eagles, Iceland and Croatia in Group D will provide him with the
chance to catch Simeone’s eye at the World Cup.
Di Maria who many would agree was a flop at Manchester United has
had two successful in France with the Parisians but rumours have it
that he appears to be seeking a return to the Spanish capital where his
countryman Simeone currently manages a club.
With that front trio of Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Neymar likely
to play more important role under Thomas Tuchel as was the case
under the his former boss turned Arsenal manager Unai Emery, Di Maria
who may find himself surplus to requirements at PSG next season has
contacted Atletico Madrid manager several times to offer his services,
according to Spanish newspaper AS .
Atletico Madrid are unlikely to pay anything close to the £44.3million
PSG paid for him, but Antoine Griezmann’s rumoured move Barcelona
could change Atletico’s transfer budget.
