Manchester United’s manager, Erik Ten Hag, pinpointed six key players in his squad whom he’s counting on to deliver goals, addressing concerns over the team’s lackluster scoring performance.
The club has struggled to find the net, tallying only 18 goals across 18 league fixtures this season. Despite Rasmus Hojlund’s impressive five-goal display in the Champions League for United following his £72 million summer move from Atalanta, he’s yet to make an impact in the Premier League, failing to register a goal or assist in his 15 appearances.
Hojlund’s recent performance in their 2-0 defeat against West Ham added to his woes, prompting his substitution in the 57th minute. Marcus Rashford, his replacement, couldn’t significantly change the scoring dynamic, joined by Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Bruno Fernandes, who all struggled to find the back of the net.

Ten Hag addressed the scoring potential within the squad, expressing confidence in Rashford, Hojlund, Antony, Garnacho, Bruno, and Scott McTominay’s ability to score. He emphasized the need for unity and self-belief among the players to translate their scoring prowess onto the field, highlighting the importance of both teamwork and individual confidence.
“After the game,” Ten Hag remarked, “I know Rashford can score a goal, Hojlund can score a goal, Antony can score a goal, Garnacho can score a goal, Bruno can score a goal, Scott McTominay can score a goal. We have the scoring abilities in our squad and also from set-plays. At this moment, we are not doing it. We have to stick together but also they have to believe in themselves that they can do it.”
