Manchester United Manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally confirmed that Ashley Young will be Manchester United’s captain whenever he is on the pitch in the new season.
Solskjaer stated this while speaking to reporters, after their pre-season friendly against AC Milan on Saturday.
The club’s captain position has been vacant ever since Antonio Valencia left this summer.
David de Gea, Victor Lindelof and Paul Pogba have all been mentioned as potential successors to Valencia, but Solskjaer says the honour will go to Young.
He said;
“David’s obviously in contention, [but] Ash when he’s on the pitch will carry the armband. When Ash starts he’ll be carrying the armband.”
He was then asked whether this meant Young could be considered the club captain, and he replied:
“You can probably call it that.”
