RIFA Condemns Ogun SUBEB Evangelism

SOCIAL MEDIA EVANGELISM: OGUN SUBEB ALLAYS FEAR, ADMITS PROVIDING SENSITIVE DATA TO AN ILLEGAL ASSOCIATION

The Rights and Freedom Advocates (RIFA), on Monday, July 15th has condemned the Catch them young enough by Ogun Government, in a press release signed by it’s president, Luqman Soliu.

It reads;

Following revelation of a subterfuge by Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (OGUN SUBEB) to turn Ogun west senatorial district public schools, for a start, to centre of “catch them young” evangelism, Rights and Freedom Advocates (RIFA) has challenged the state government.

In the document released by OGUN SUBEB and copy of which was obtained by RIFA, the state agency directed the said letter to Social Media Evangelism (SME) authorising it to carry out its activities despite being an unregistered association.

The government even released vital documents relating to students enrolment to the association. The letter dated June 28, 2019 reads in part “ I am directed to refer to your letter dated 14th June, 2019 on the above subject and wish to forward to you the data on school list and pupils’ enrolment in Ogun west senatorial district of Ogun state as requested.

I am to add that approval has also been granted for you to visit all public primary schools in Ogun west senatorial district……” and was addressed to an unregistered association whose sponsors and trustee members are not yet recognized or approved under any law in the country.

However, at a meeting among RIFA representatives, the SME representatives and the Ogun SUBEB on Monday 15 July, 2019, it was resolved that the association (SME) truly was unregistered but undergoing registration even though this was unverifiable although it gave deceptive list of prominent personalities in Ogun State including the governor as its sponsors and or patrons.

The fact therefore remains that the Ogun SUBEB erred to have released sensitive data on Ogun Schools to an unregistered association. RIFA maintain that the ploy cannot stand! The association should be prevented from visiting any or all public schools in Ogun State from carrying out any activity under a faulty approval.

The permission granted it should be withdrawn by OGUNSUBEB while various stakeholders who witness the association presence in any public school in the state should resist and inform appropriate security agencies.

The school administrators are advised, in their own interest, to insist on certificate of registration of any organization that approaches them with fake government approval to carry out hidden agenda. Besides, the certificate of registration presented, if post-dated to the approval, should be rejected.

There is need to sanitize our society of extremists employing various means to execute their plans.
As noted by RIFA, whatever social media message the illegal association has should be taught through its social media platforms or worship place.

What social media do primary school students even understand to use?

Why would an unregistered association be allowed to have access to sensitive government data?

Or is government planning dangerous agenda for the students of the state public schools?

Who would be held responsible in case of breakdown of law and order caused by the unregistered association?

Do authorities understand the security implication of what was done by recognizing unregistered association?

Is that not a foundation for promoting lawlessness by Ogun State government that anybody can just wake and decide to rob the state under any guise?

RIFA noted the danger it poses to the state harmonious relationship if the approval granted and data released were not withdrawn with immediate effect from the organization.

The state government although allays fear that it has no hidden agenda but can successfully allay the fear of all citizens in the state that it has no hidden agenda if it withdrew the said approval and data while its officials should be held responsible for the consequence in case it failed to do the needful.

Luqman Soliu,
President
Rights and Freedom Advocates (RIFA)
