Renowned singer, Crown Uzama, known by his stage name Shallipopi, recently shared how fellow artist Rema served as a source of inspiration for musicians from Edo State, encouraging them to believe in their own talents.
During an episode of The Zero Conditions podcast, the Benin-born artist expressed that prior to Rema’s emergence, many artists from Benin didn’t harbor much hope of breaking into the music scene. There was a prevalent belief that achieving musical stardom was reserved for residents of Lagos and Abuja.
However, Rema’s journey, especially when D’Prince signed him to Jonzing World, became a turning point. It illuminated the possibility for Benin artists to also attain stardom, instilling a newfound hope within them. His success signified that crossing over into the spotlight was indeed achievable.
Reflecting on Rema’s transition to Lagos, Shallipopi emphasized how they closely observed his journey, proudly identifying themselves as his steadfast supporters from day one.
