Nollywood luminary and media figure, Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, popularly known as Nedu, has recently shared his insights on the escalating divorce rates within the Nigerian entertainment sector.
The renowned comedian highlighted the absence of tranquility in celebrity marriages as a fundamental factor contributing to the recurrent dissolution of these unions. Nedu asserted that preserving mental well-being stands as a legitimate grounds for divorce, underscoring that if marriage jeopardizes one’s happiness, opting for divorce becomes a reasonable choice.
Dismissing the notion that individuals should endure troubled marriages as their “crosses to bear,” Nedu emphasized the significance of safeguarding one’s mental health. During a recent interview with Hip TV, he expressed his stance, stating, “My take on divorce is, if it doesn’t work, then take a walk. I’m all for peace of mind. Whatever is not giving me peace, I don’t want it. I can’t come and go and kill myself.”
Addressing the common advice to persevere in challenging marriages, Nedu firmly stated, “Some people tell you, it’s your cross, carry am. No, na only Jesus dey carry cross. If you’re not giving me peace of mind, then what am I doing with you? Absolutely, nothing. I protect my sanity, which is the most important part of who I am.”

Encouraging a proactive approach to marital challenges, Nedu urged individuals to evaluate their reasons for staying in a marriage, questioning whether it’s for the sake of the children or genuine happiness. He concluded, “If the person you are married to doesn’t give you joy, then what are you doing? If it’s not working, get out.”
It’s worth noting that Nedu went through a separation from his estranged wife, Uzoamaka, in 2018, citing paternity fraud as one of the reasons for the split.
