In a historic moment for African football, Nigeria made headlines by producing both the male and female Best Players of the Year in a single edition of the CAF Awards.
The prestigious event, hosted in Marrakech, Morocco, witnessed Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala claim the top honors.
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, known for his sensational performances, clinched the CAF African Player of the Year award in the men’s category, marking his debut win.
Osimhen’s remarkable displays, particularly in Italy and while representing the Super Eagles, earned him the highly coveted prize. However, the competition was intense, with strong contenders like Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi and Egyptian striker Mohammed Salah making it to the final three nominees.
On the women’s front, Asisat Oshoala continued to shine, securing the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award for an unprecedented sixth time.
Oshoala played a pivotal role in Barcelona Women’s Champions League triumph last season, ending as the club’s top scorer with an impressive tally of 27 goals across all competitions.
