Mourinho Makes Three Excuses For Manchester United’s Defeat To West Ham

Jose Mourinho has pinpointed the three moments where Manchester United’s game was lost against West Ham.

The Red Devils were in desperate need of a win following their draw with Wolves last weekend, but were royally humbled at the London Stadium.

Felipe Anderson got the hosts off to a great start after just five minutes when the summer signing cleverly flicked home Pablo Zabaleta’s cross. Just before half-time West Hamdoubled their lead, Andriy Yarmolenko’s shot deflected offVictor Lindelof and past David De Gea.

United got one back in the second half through substitute Marcus Rashford. But any hope of a comeback from the visitors was thwarted when Mark Arnautovic made it 3-1.

Mourinho blamed his side’s defeat on three excuses – pointing to Zabaleta as offside for West Ham’s first goal, the bad luck of the own goal and a foul on Rashford in the build up for the hosts’ third.

“We had a reaction but an own goal makes 2-0,” Mourinho told BT Sport.

“We are not aggressive and intense enough, then we are losing 2-0. With an offside goal and an own goal.

Second half we took time to react. Their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves.

“I think a team that comes with that mental fragility ofthe bad results come here and is losing 1-0 isn’t the best way to start.

A goal offside, last Tuesday with VAR wouldn’t be a goal, but no VAR, linesman mistake and a goal.

“The third goal isn’t a mistake from the linesman but rather the referee, it was a clear foul on Rashford from Zabaleta.”
