Manchester City are understood to be closing in on a £75million
record deal for African winger Riyad Mahrez.
The Premier League champions have been in talks with Leicester
City since January when they rejected an offer of £50m plus forward
Patrick Roberts, who the Citizens valued at £15m close to the transfer
deadline.
According to Manchester Evening News report that Pep Guardiola has
told Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano and sporting
director Txiki Begiristain to wrap up the deal for Mahrez in time for the
club’s US pre-season tour.
However, a fee is now close to being agreed, which is believed to be
£60m up front with a potential further £15m in add-ons for the 27-
year-old former PFA Player of the Year being done this summer.
If Mahrez eventually seals the deal to Etihad Stadium the Algerian
international will become City’s record and African signing the fee
would surpass the £57m City paid Athletic Bilbao for centre-back
Aymeric Laporte earlier this year.
The deal will surpass Cedric Bakambu £64million move to Chinese
Super League outfit Beijing Guoan.
