Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and actress, Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor, better known by her stage name Efya has dismissed the notion of comparing the music industries of Ghana and Nigeria, emphasizing that Lagos, Nigeria, holds a larger scale and magnitude in the music scene compared to Ghana.
Efya stressed that Nigeria’s sheer numerical advantage propels its music industry ahead of Ghana’s market. She highlighted the significance of collaboration between the two West African countries rather than engaging in comparisons.
During a recent interview with City 105.1 FM in Lagos, Efya articulated, “The Nigerian and Ghanaian music markets stand apart. The numerical difference is significant, with Nigeria boasting a much larger audience. The volume of Nigerian music streaming within the country surpasses that of Ghanaian music within Ghana. It’s crucial to acknowledge that the numbers vary significantly.”

“In terms of sheer numbers, Lagos surpasses Ghana. It’s the epicenter of the music scene itself. The Nigerian audience base is notably larger than ours. So, whenever I encounter comparisons, I question, ‘Do you truly understand?'”
She advocated against comparisons, emphasizing the need for a collaborative approach. “Rather than comparisons, what we truly need is collaboration. We ought to amalgamate our unique vibes to elevate the future of Afrobeats, enabling us to safeguard our own distinct sound. I believe that’s the strategic move forward,” Efya expressed.
