South African artist Tyla, whose real name is Tyla Laura Seethal, recently disclosed her interest in going on a date with Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema. During a recent interview with Apple Music, Tyla was asked to name a celebrity she’d like to take to prom, and she enthusiastically mentioned Rema as her choice.
She expressed her admiration for him, saying, “Rema would be cute. I hung out with him last year, and we took pictures together. That was so dramatic.” Tyla’s comment shed light on the entertainment industry’s tendency to generate rumors and drama based on simple interactions, such as taking pictures together.
She pointed out that Hollywood is all about vibes, and not everything should be taken at face value, emphasizing that the public perception of her and Rema being in a romantic relationship was a misunderstanding. In her own words, “Even I started believing [we were dating]. But we are just friends.”

This revelation comes after Rema had previously sparked rumors of a romantic relationship with Justin Skye, who is known as Wizkid’s ex, when he treated her to a birthday date in August.
Additionally, there were speculations about a romantic involvement between Rema and his label mate, Ayra Starr, in the past. However, Ayra Starr clarified that their relationship was purely platonic, describing Rema as a “brother.”
In essence, Tyla’s interest in Rema sheds light on the dynamic world of celebrity interactions and the tendency of the media and the public to misinterpret them. It serves as a reminder that not everything in the entertainment industry is as it seems, and appearances can be deceiving.
