Nollywood Actress Ayo Mogaji

Nollywood veteran Binta Ayo Mogaji, affectionately known as Mama Insurance, recently opened up about her remarkable journey to motherhood, which came with significant challenges and triumphs. Appearing on the ‘Talk To B’ podcast, Mogaji shared her deeply personal story of becoming a mother at the age of 40, despite facing a series of medical hurdles.

In her candid interview, Mogaji revealed that her path to motherhood was far from straightforward. She recounted undergoing a critical surgery to remove one of her fallopian tubes following an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy, where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in a fallopian tube, can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical intervention. For Mogaji, this meant losing one of her fallopian tubes in a grueling operation that lasted between seven to nine hours.

“The pregnancy was ectopic,” Mogaji began, detailing the harrowing experience. “They took me to seven different hospitals. The doctor said he wasn’t sure I could survive until the next day. The operation took them, like, seven to nine hours. Some of my colleagues who visited me at the hospital were crying.”

Despite this major setback, Mogaji’s resilience shone through. She did not let the loss of a fallopian tube deter her from her dream of becoming a mother. In a testament to her strength and determination, she gave birth to her son naturally, defying the odds.

“I’m living with one fallopian tube, and I had my child through natural birth,” Mogaji shared, highlighting the miraculous nature of her experience. Her journey to motherhood was not only a medical miracle but also a personal triumph over adversity.

Reflecting on her life at the time, Mogaji explained that she had made a firm decision about her desire for a child, irrespective of her marital status. “I stopped looking for a husband; I wanted to make a baby. I said if I don’t have a baby until I’m 40, then I’ll adopt a child,” she recalled. This decision underscored her unwavering commitment to becoming a mother.

Mogaji’s partner, Jibola, entered her life just before she turned 40, bringing with him the promise of new beginnings. However, their relationship did not conform to traditional expectations. Both Mogaji and Jibola were not interested in getting married, focusing instead on the shared joy of welcoming their child into the world. “Jibola came shortly before I was 40 because I had my baby six weeks after I became 40 years old. But he didn’t want to get married as well,” Mogaji noted.

Her story is one of hope, resilience, and the power of maternal love. Mogaji’s journey highlights the challenges many women face in their quest for motherhood and underscores the importance of perseverance and self-belief. Her openness about her experiences provides inspiration and encouragement to many who may be facing similar struggles.

In the often-glamorous world of Nollywood, Mogaji’s candid revelations serve as a reminder of the real-life challenges and triumphs that lie behind the scenes. Her story is not just about becoming a mother; it is about overcoming adversity, making personal choices, and finding joy and fulfillment on her terms.

Mama Insurance’s journey to motherhood at 40, with just one fallopian tube, is a powerful narrative of resilience and determination. It stands as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the boundless capacity of love to overcome even the most daunting obstacles.
