Erik Ten Hag Wanted Harry Kane but Manchester United Signed Rasmus Hojlund Instead.
Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, recently disclosed his preference for signing Harry Kane last summer, but the club opted for Rasmus Hojlund instead. While Kane joined Bayern Munich for a £100 million deal from Tottenham, United secured Hojlund for £72 million from Atalanta.
In Hojlund’s debut season at Old Trafford, he has scored eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances. On the other hand, Harry Kane has demonstrated his striking prowess by netting 35 times in 31 Bundesliga games for Bayern.
During an interview with Gary Neville for Sky Sports, Ten Hag discussed the situation, saying, “We considered options with emerging talents like Rasmus Hojlund.” He acknowledged the pursuit of an established striker but ultimately turned to Hojlund as a promising talent.

When Neville asked if Ten Hag was referring to Harry Kane, the Manchester United manager affirmed, “Yes, and you know Harry Kane will score 30 goals for you.” He expressed confidence in Hojlund’s potential, stating, “Rasmus will get there, but he needs time. It’s not fair to assess him the same way as Harry Kane. I never compare two players because they are different.”
Though Manchester United’s decision favored Hojlund, the club is optimistic about his growth and development under Ten Hag’s guidance.
