In an inspiring pursuit of a new Guinness World Record (GWR), Ghanaian culinary maestro Failatu Abdul-Rasak, affectionately known as Faila, has accomplished an extraordinary feat by cooking continuously for an impressive 227 hours.
Embarking on this ambitious endeavor at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale on January 1, 2024, Faila’s determination and culinary skills were on full display as she dedicated ten days to breaking existing records and etching her name in the annals of history.
The cook-a-thon concluded on Wednesday, marking a historic moment for Faila and her supporters who had been following the remarkable journey.
Taking to social media to share her joy, Faila expressed, “Now, it’s time for us to rejoice and jubilate. This victory is dedicated to God and Ghana. Thank you all, m’pagya!”
Throughout the marathon effort, Faila garnered widespread support from notable Ghanaian figures, including former Black Star footballers Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan. The involvement of such influential personalities added an extra layer of excitement and community spirit to the culinary spectacle.
Even Ghana’s Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, took to Facebook to acknowledge Faila’s remarkable attempt, contributing to the celebratory atmosphere by donating 30,000 Ghanaian cedis (£1,981) to the accomplished chef.

Faila’s ambitious pursuit was not just a personal triumph but a mission to surpass the existing record held by Irish chef Alan Fisher, who previously cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes. Fisher had dethroned Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, breaking her record of 93 hours and 11 minutes.
Failatu Abdul-Rasak’s extraordinary feat in the kitchen not only showcases her culinary prowess but also reflects the indomitable spirit of determination and passion for breaking new ground.
