Gernot Rohr Names 24-Man Squad For AFCON Qualifiers

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has named 24-man strong squad for next month’s must-win Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Seychelles in Victoria.

The 65-year-old German tactician recalled Ola Aina and Henry Onyekuru who miss 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia whilefirst-timeinvitation for Kelechi Nwakali, Samuel Kalu, and a little-known duo of Semi Ajayi who plays for Rotherham United and SC Paderborn of Germany left-back Jamilu Collins.Rohr is expected called on regulars in the team, but captain John Mikel Obi, who recently returned from an injury, Victor Moses who announced international retirement recently and Elderson Echiejile among the big absentees.

Benfica newbie Tyronne Ebuehi and Bursaspor defender Abdullahi Shehu are still recovering from injuries and were omitted from the squadVice-captain Onazi, Chinses Super League third highest goalscorers Odion Ighalo and Al-Nassr new star Ahmed Musa lead 16 players from the World Cup in Russia.

Seychelles will host Nigeria on September 7 in Victoria in continuation of the 2019 AFCON qualifying series with both teams lost their opening games Super Eagles lost 2-0 in Uyo to South Africa, while The Pirates where whitewashed 5-1 by Libya.
