Don't Give Anyone Your Banking Details Without a Thorough Investigation

In a bid to reduce the menace of bank frauds in the society, an advocate of internet safety, Mr. Rotimi Onadipe has informed the general public to always do a thorough investigation before they give their banking details to anyone irrespective of the person’s relationship with them.

Mr. Onadipe stated this during his organisation’s weekly broadcast on cyber security, held in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Saturday, September 3rd, 2022.

The internet safety advocate noted that many people have been jailed for various offences they did not commit while others are facing trials in different courts locally and internationally because they lack certain information that would have prevented them from becoming victims of such circumstances.

He said, “I visited several correctional centers to interview people involved in fraud cases and I discovered that many of them ignorantly gave out their banking details to friends, neighbors, family members, among others without doing a thorough investigation.

“Beware, someone you trust so much may ask for your banking details for fraudulent or criminal purposes, unknown to him or her.

There are several cases of innocent people in court now that ignorantly sent their banking details to fraudsters or kidnappers who already negotiated with their victims for certain amount of money.

“Have you found out why the person’s account cannot be used? Have you investigated the source of the money that is to be transferred into your account? More importantly, have you informed an expert in fraud prevention about it?

“To protect yourself from becoming a victim of such circumstance, don’t give your banking details to anyone without a thorough investigation,” Onadipe added.
