The Concerned PDP League (CPDPL), a proactive faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a compelling suggestion to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, urging him not to participate in the 2027 presidential race.
This counsel was officially conveyed through a communiqué signed on Sunday and disseminated in Abuja by the National Secretary, Alhaji Tasiu Muhammed, and the acting National Director of Publicity and Strategic Communication, Gbenga Adedamola.
The CPDPL also extended its advisory to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, cautioning against harboring presidential aspirations until 2031. This strategic move aims to prevent a recurrence of the setbacks faced by the party in the 2015 and 2023 elections.

The group emphasized the importance of aspiring candidates from the North acknowledging that the South is entitled to eight years in power before the presidency returns to the North in 2031. This, they argue, would contribute to the overall stability of the country’s political landscape.
The CPDPL stressed the need for the party to learn from the pitfalls that led to its defeat in the 2023 general election and advised against repeating those errors as preparations commence for the 2027 general election.
“In reflection of the challenges faced in 2023, a pivotal year for our esteemed party, where we lost the presidential election due to non-compliance with our party’s constitution of 2017, as amended, and leadership shortcomings, we advocate prudence,” affirmed the CPDPL.
