A Federal High Court in Lagos has postponed the ongoing trial of the Nigerian musician, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, who is facing cybercrime charges. The case has been adjourned until November 13 and 30, following Naira Marley’s absence in court.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo made this decision on Monday, taking into account Naira Marley’s failure to appear in court. The charges against Naira Marley, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), are related to cybercrime. These charges were initially filed on May 14, 2019, after which the court granted him bail in the amount of N2 million, with two sureties providing a similar sum.

The EFCC’s allegations suggest that Naira Marley and his associates engaged in a conspiracy to use multiple Access Bank ATM cards for fraudulent activities, victimizing unsuspecting individuals. The trial had already commenced, but it remains an ongoing process.

It is worth noting that the police in Lagos had previously detained Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, in connection with the tragic death of Nigerian artist Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad. However, despite the court’s order for his presence, Naira Marley was conspicuously absent from the trial when it was called on Monday.

Mr. Olalekan Ojo (SAN), representing Naira Marley, informed the court about the continued absence of the musician during the trial. The prosecutor stated that she had previously requested a production warrant for the defendant, but he still did not appear.

As a result, the court decided to adjourn the case to November 13 and 30 for the continuation of the trial, awaiting Naira Marley’s participation.
