The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has successfully secured an agreement with European clubs to allow the release of Super Eagles players for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations by January 1, 2024, marking a significant step forward.
Preparations for the tournament will kick off as the Super Eagles converge for camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on the same day.
In a proactive move, head coach Jose Peseiro has reportedly submitted a preliminary list of 40 players to the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This roster is anticipated to be trimmed down to 27 players by January 3, 2024.
Historically, European clubs have hesitated to release players promptly for the AFCON due to its scheduling amidst their domestic leagues. However, the NFF has actively resolved potential conflicts with these clubs by ensuring timely agreements for player releases ahead of the tournament.
