Canada vs Uruguay’s Copa America Third place’s match started the with full attacking forces.

The dramatic end capped off an exciting game that saw both teams hold the lead. Rodrigo Betancur put Uruguay in front after just eight minutes, only for Ismaël Koné to score a tremendous equalizer in the 22nd minute.

Uruguay were the overwhelming favorites to win in Charlotte and quickly took the lead when Rodrigo Bentancur smashed in a knock-down from a corner.

But Canada went on to play their best football of the tournament and got back on level terms when the impressive Ismael Kone scored an acrobatic overhead kick. And, in the second-half, Canada took the lead when Jonathan David pounced to slot home a rebound.

Suarez broke Canada’s hearts at the death, however, and it was Uruguay who held their nerve in the shootout. Ismael Kone’s tame effort was saved and Canada captain Alphonso Davies then hit the crossbar with a Panenka to hand third-place to the fortunate Uruguayans.

Substitute Jonathan David seemed to win the game for Canada with an 80th minute goal, only for Suárez to save Uruguay in the game’s closing moments.

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch once again inspired a valiant effort from his side who went toe-to-toe with mighty Uruguay despite a rotated lineup, but the late collapse was also a touch of their own doing.

They refused to sit back and protect the lead once David put them in front, and the game remained wide open and frantic, which ultimately saw Suarez equalize late.
