Benue Gov's Aide, Kula Debunks Alleged Attack on Alia

Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, has refuted a recent report alleging an attack on the Governor by irate youths in Ugondu community. Kula termed the report “fabricated, deceptive, and seemingly aimed at undermining Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s reputation.”

Denouncing the news as false, Kula stated, “There was no incident of anyone hurling objects at Gov Alia or his convoy within Benue State.”

Setting the facts straight, Kula clarified that Governor Alia visited Vaatia College, Makurdi, following reports of criminal activity involving Ugondu youths. “Governor Alia visited Vaatia College, Makurdi, where instances of burglary, theft, vandalism, and desecration of tombs were reported,” the statement outlined.

“At the meeting, alongside traditional rulers from the host community, including Ter Makurdi and Mue Ter-Masev, were notable figures such as Sen. Fred Orti, Sen. Daniel Saror, and Chief Akange Audu,” Kula highlighted.

During the address, Governor Alia emphasized the need to apprehend those responsible for the criminal acts as a deterrent to others. “Promptly, some youths from the community, guided by their leaders, apprehended several suspects who were then handed over to present security operatives,” Kula explained.

“Governor Alia conducted his visit to Vaatia College without disturbance, holding the meeting seamlessly and departing without incident,” the statement confirmed.

Kula stressed Governor Alia’s popularity among the people, noting, “He is the first Governor in the state’s history to freely interact in streets and markets, overseeing reports and inspecting progress without encountering harassment.”

The statement concluded with advice for media practitioners to uphold professional ethics, emphasizing the importance of credibility and responsible journalism. “Verification of news sources before publication remains imperative,” Kula highlighted.

“Journalists should prioritize investigative reporting and verify the accuracy of their stories to prevent the spread of misleading information,” the statement urged. “Relying on mere copy-and-paste journalism risks perpetuating malicious and deceptive narratives.”

“This particular report appears ill-intentioned and highlights the necessity of adhering strictly to journalistic principles,” Kula emphasized. “It’s crucial to elevate our standards beyond duplicating news stories, ensuring accuracy, and averting the dissemination of baseless and malevolent content.”
