BBC documentary: Multichoice removes TB Joshua’s Emmanuel TV from DStv

Multichoice DStv Ceases Broadcast of Emmanuel TV Following Controversial BBC Documentary on TB Joshua.

Multichoice DStv has officially announced the discontinuation of the broadcast of Emmanuel TV, the religious network founded by the late T.B. Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN). This decision comes in the aftermath of a contentious documentary produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that highlighted allegations against the late prophet.

The viral three-part documentary featured individuals who claimed to be former members of the SCOAN, sharing disturbing accounts of molestation and torture they allegedly experienced at the hands of T.B. Joshua. The controversy surrounding the documentary has prompted Multichoice to remove Emmanuel TV from its DStv platform, with the termination set to take effect on January 17, 2024.

In a message displayed on screen, Multichoice conveyed the decision to viewers, stating, “Dear viewer, please note that Emmanuel TV will exit on the 17th of January 2024. Thank you for watching.”

The fallout extends beyond Multichoice, as Emmanuel TV will also cease its services on StarSat and other pay-TV platforms. This move signifies a significant separation between the religious network and various broadcasting platforms.

The BBC’s investigative probe into the late TB Joshua and the SCOAN involved interviews with at least 30 alleged former members and workers of the church. The resulting documentary raised serious allegations of atrocities and sexual crimes, leading to a wave of controversy and public discussion.

As Multichoice takes this decisive step, the impact on the global viewership and perception of Emmanuel TV remains uncertain. The removal from DStv and other platforms marks a notable development in the ongoing narrative surrounding the legacy of T.B. Joshua and the controversies surrounding his ministry.
