Atm and Pos Fraud: Protect Your Accounts - Group Urges Bank Customers

A non-profit organisation, internet safety magazine, has urged bank customers to protect their bank accounts against ATM and POS fraud.

The founder of the organisation, Mr. Rotimi Onadipe noted that despite several warnings by banks, police, economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC) and other organisations fighting cyber crimes, many bank customers are still falling victim to ATM and POS fraud because they fail to protect their bank accounts.

Mr. Onadipe stated this during his organisation’s weekly lecture on cyber safety with the theme “Say NO to internet abuse, say YES to internet safety,” held at Ibadan on July 23rd, 2022.

“Don’t disclose your PIN, CVV, BVN, One-Time Password (OTP) or other sensitive information regarding your bank account with anyone even if the person claims he is a representative of your bank.”

“If your ATM card is stolen or the ATM swallows your card, block your account and report to your bank immediately, don’t request for an ATM card If you don’t really need it, cover your fingers when typing your PIN and make sure there is no one watching you from behind,” he added.

In his closing remarks, the internet safety expert said bank customers must educate themselves about how to prevent ATM and POS fraud.
