In a recent statement, Chief Bisi Akande, the founding Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has cautioned Nigerians against the idea of bringing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) back to power in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Akande firmly believes that such a move would exacerbate the challenges facing the nation.
Addressing concerns about the opposition parties’ proposal to form a coalition and challenge the ruling party, Akande expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of such a coalition in alleviating the current hardships faced by Nigerians. Speaking during an interview in Ila Orangun, Osun State, on Saturday, as part of the celebrations for his 85th birthday, the elder statesman emphasized the potential return to suffering if the PDP were to regain power.

Akande highlighted the reason behind the PDP’s defeat, attributing it to a lack of direction. He contrasted this with the APC, which he claimed inherited a weakened and dilapidated political and economic foundation in Nigeria. Drawing a metaphor, he likened the APC’s governance to a driver faced with a sudden obstacle, necessitating a change in direction. He acknowledged the challenges (screeches) seen in the process of repairing damages accumulated from 1960 to 2015, acknowledging that even President Buhari’s administration had its imperfections.
As Nigerians contemplate the political landscape leading up to 2027, Akande urged the populace to consider the ongoing efforts to address historical damages and reiterated the importance of supporting the APC for continued progress and development.
